Riding with Rocking Horse

The emphasis at Rocking Horse is on riding for fun.  We have a floodlit outdoor school for teaching and gymkhana games plus the extra benefit of being able to take rides out into adjacent woodland with no road work.Magic and Becca

We work with each rider on an individual basis to ensure that they are encouraged, challenged and given the confidence to progress to the best of their abilities. To assist progress, riders receive a report twice a year written by one of the Group’s Instructors.

There are  proficiency tests in riding and /or stable management (set by RDA National) which may be recommended according to the ability or aptitude of each rider. Rocking Horse also has its own trophy, the Ripley Horse and Rider Trophy, which is awarded at the end of each term to the rider who the instructors judge most deserving, for example due to exceptional progress, trying particularly hard or improving dramatically in their confidence and empathy with the ponies.

Our riders must be a minimum of 5 years of age.  We are able to support the majority of mental disabilities and some physical disabilities but unfortunately do not have the appropriate equipment to accommodate wheelchair users. Rocking Horse RDA is a small Group (12 riders maximum) so there is always a waiting list! We have removed the 4 year limit and now have all riders on an anual review.

We are fortunate that Rocking Horse is offered a substantial discount on the cost of hiring ponies which we pass on to our riders who are asked to pay subscriptions one month in advance.  No financial support is provided by RDA National.
